I do understand not liking kids running through your restaurant or damaging home or troubling other customers. I was once at a casual dining establishment and the kids were consuming silently at the booth.
And I rapidly learned to be careful where I invested my cash. So ... with that said, there are many family friendly restaurants in Houston and here are some fun places for kids to eat (and moms and dads too). We stroll in, order at the counter and find our seats. The personnel always welcomes us warmly and comes over our table to examine us. The interior is casual however extremely nice with a punched tin ceiling and huge windows that open to the big porch. The Ice cream is totally free and the supervisors have been known to bring around free cookies.
There are several areas, but the museum district dining establishment is our favorite. The walls are lively yet modern and this is really much a matured dining establishment that is welcoming to families. They have a kids menu and a wood robotic to keep the kids entertained! The menu options are a few of my preferred in Houston, with veggie burgers, salads and hamburgers, fish, meatloaf and more.
Do not let the dull gray exterior fool you. This little dining establishment is wild inside. There is great food, good patio, iPad station, sweet store, game AND the proceeds go to help children and families impacted by cancer. This absolutely belongs on the "Kid Friendly Restaurants Houston" list. Psssst - Here is a secret ...
Find their site. Cedar Creek has a slogan: Life is brief, do not sweat it! And the lots of households there seemed to enjoy their life! It feels casual and inviting and you will want to sit outside, there is lots of shade and lots of great tables for little or big gatherings.
Sit outside and the kids can run in the grassy courtyard. The staff is extremely friendly and the cookies served with the kid menu are remarkable. Go inside the airport, ride up the elevator and consume lunch as you view the aircrafts and helicopters!

A laid-back, family-friendly spot with wood-fired pizzas, fresh pasta, and a lot of space for kids. They've got a welcoming, rustic vibe, plus game games to keep the kids entertained while you delight in a local brew. We frequent the Littleton location often. The service is fast and friendly with an excellent kid's menu.
Plus, you really can't fail with pizza!.
